A Quiet Family Walk in Bosnia

Bliha Waterfall near Sanski Most, Bosnia and Herzegovina, is one of those beautiful natural places that feels made for a quiet walk, a family day out, and a slower kind of travel story. In this no narration video, Alice, Tamara and I follow the boardwalk towards Bliha Waterfall before continuing on to the small old mill nearby, taking in the sound of the water, the woodland path, and the peaceful countryside of Bosnia.

There is no talking in this one.

Just a gentle walk, the boardwalk beneath our feet, the sound of the waterfall ahead, and one of those simple family moments that becomes special because it is shared.

Bliha Waterfall, close to Sanski Most in north-western Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a lovely place to slow down for a while. The walk in is easy and scenic, with trees, water, wooden paths, and that feeling you often get in Bosnia — that the best discoveries are not always the grand, dramatic ones, but the quiet ones tucked just off the road.

After visiting the waterfall, we carried on towards the small mill nearby. It wasn’t working when we visited, but the short walk through the trees still had its own charm.

Alice was visiting from the UK, and having her there with Tamara and me made this more than just another stop on the map.

Sometimes, Bosnia gives you a waterfall.

Sometimes, it gives you a path into the woods.

And sometimes, it gives you a memory you did not know you were collecting.

If you’re new here, I’m David. I moved to Bosnia over twenty-six years ago and never really left. This Blog is about my retirement, daily life, culture and what it’s actually like living in this often misunderstood country.

Thanks for being here and for following the journey.

Hello, I’m David, a British-born storyteller, podcaster, and video creator living in rural northern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

For more than two decades, Bosnia has been home. From village walks and quiet mornings to local traditions, unexpected encounters, field recordings, podcasts, and reflective videos, I share stories from a life lived a little off the usual path.

My work is not about glossy travel content or chasing the latest trend. It is about slowing down, noticing the details, and telling honest stories from this part of the Balkans, especially from the perspective of someone in the later chapter of life, still curious, still learning, and still trying to make sense of the world.
