Bosnia and Herzegovina has a diverse recent history, and for many people around the world, still brings the picture of the Civil war from the 1990’s, but despite this belief, it is still on many traveller’s top 5 places to visit before they “Kick the Bucket”.
Here are some of the most common reasons why:
History and Culture
For many decades Bosnia and Herzegovina has been conquered by different nations. Also many nations from European countries have come here to live after the Second World War. This leaves an interesting trace in our culture and history, which makes a quite unique experience for travellers.
For example, here you will see different styles of mosques and churches, remains of Roman baths and castles and tombs.
This country’s culture and architecture is a mix of Eastern and Western societies.
Natural Beauty
Bosnia and Herzegovina has beautiful and diverse nature, from real jungle to mountains and beautiful waterfalls. It has many national parks which are perfect for those who are seeking a sport adventure while staying here, such as:
White water rafting,
Hiking,
Scuba diving,
Mountain biking,
Horse riding,
Fast river kayaking,
Snowboarding and Skiing (we hosted the 1984 Winter Olympics).
You can also relax here and explore cities or villages at your own paste.
People in this country are very friendly and will help you if you have any questions.
Food and Drink
The country’s food, a mix of Eastern and Western influences, is beyond delicious.
You must try “Burek” (meat pie) and “Ćevap” which is Bosnian Kebab. These two are considered the best national fast foods of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Also, the “Baklava” tastes so much different than Baklava in Middle Eastern countries.
It is so hard to describe the smells and taste of the local food, so when you come to visit you must try it.
But don’t worry you will not break your bank account, as everything is so much cheaper than in Europe or North America.
Here we go, this is just a glimpse of my adopted country.
