Sretan Uskrs - Happy Easter
Last weekend was the first of Two Easters for Me - Yes, I am the Guy that gets to celebrate Two! 👍
Hello and welcome to this edition of our newsletter / Blog Post, from Čardačani, in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina, written by an immigrant (me), as I am neither a tourist or a citizen here.
Sretan Uskrs - Happy Easter
I know that this might be confusing, as for many in the world, Good Friday was last week, in fact as the last BlogPost dropped into your email. I hope you had a great time with family and friends.
As I have mentioned annually, (I hope it doesn’t get boring for you), I get to take part in things like Easter and Christmas, twice, as there are two church calendars here, for Catholic and Eastern Orthodox.
The first one, used to be carefully crafted to replicate English Easter, with Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday and a nearest as possible to an English Easter Roast lunch.
Of course that required a quick trip back to the UK to get ingredients etc that simply aren’t accessible here in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The pandemic put that on hold and this year, my focus on the week I had in South Oxfordshire, was spent concentrating on catching up with family after some 30 months apart.
I did bring a few things back though 😉.
Tamara baked Hot Cross Buns though. I have to say she makes the best ever.
We also found time to organise an Easter egg hunt in the garden.
As this post is published on a Friday, well here it is Veliki Petak or Big Friday (Good Friday) for the Serbian Orthodox faith.
Second Easter starts!

Laktaši has become a Town - Laktaši su postali grad
You should NEVER Assume.
Why? Because you’ll invariably get things wrong. As my first sergeant major told me as a very naive soldier, “Assume makes an Ass out of You and Me” = ASS/U/ME
I came to live in Čardačani decades ago and I had always thought that our nearest town Laktaši, was just that. A town.
It seemed big enough, although it was the centre of the greater municipality that took it’s name. All the administrative offices were there, we even got married in the local equivalent to a registry office.
Then Tamara sent me a message that Laktaši had been awarded town (grad) status.
What?
So on the 15th April 2022, Laktaši, became a town in its own right.
Crazily I haven’t recorded a “Walk through Laktaši”. I need to do one now. Right?
In the meantime, I found this short drive through video that was recorded last year 😀
Ask Me Anything- AMA
We recently had our first Ask Me Anything Session (AMA).
It has exceeded any expectation I might have had, so thank you so much for that
It’s still not too late for you to ask a question.
I try to answer in real time.
