Hello and welcome to this edition of our newsletter, or should I say Blog Post, from Čardačani, in the north of Bosnia and Herzegovina, written by an immigrant (me), as I am neither a tourist or a citizen here.

Share An Englishman in the Balkans

Substack, the platform I use to host the blog, and where you get my content delivered from, has recently introduced the possibility of uploading video.

You can see this at the top of this post.

I think it’s a great addition.

It helps tell the story of my life here in my adopted country. I also think it gives a bit of a “vlog” feel as well.

What do you think?
Do you like watching video content?
Should I continue including a video each week?

It’s been a busy, no, hectic week for us here.

In no particular order, there have been tourist video scripts to rewrite, voice, and edit. The re-roofing of our garage, Tamara’s continuing cookery experiments, and a period of exceedingly unusual warm weather.

Weather

The intro video shows no frosty vistas or even snow, but bright, almost late spring type views over the village. Whilst I love the warm, this weather is not going to last (I think) and we’ll be back to a cold snap, that will, for the 3rd year in a row, ruin any prospects of a decent fruit or vegetable harvest.

Definitely not the forecast we need.

The Garage Roof

To be honest, the cladding on our garage roof has looked a bit “meh” for the past few years.

Tamara’s father has been talking about renewing it with better quality for sometime now. The decision was taken that we “crack on” and get it done.

The following video tells the story.

I have to say that the team who came were, efficient, professional and completed the task far far sooner than I could ever have anticipated.

No stopping “for a cuppa” at all 😀

Going Back to School

On Saturday (that’s today if you open this post as soon its its published), I am attending a cooking course.

I’ll be introduced to, and learning to prepare, some 5 traditional dishes from this region.

The course is sponsored by the Tourism Organisation of the Republic of Srpska.

The “students” apart from me, are from Russia, Mexico, Syria, Venezuela and China, there will be participants from the local area too.

It’s going to be fun.

A one-day course of home cooking with Chef Predrag Tošič, which will be organized in the cooking workshop "Kitchen” on February 19, 2022, from 11 am to 4 pm. We prepare dishes following old recipes, and we serve them in a traditional and modern way in order to present our guests with the most delicious, highest quality way.

What We Have Been Watching

After a few weeks of binge watching sci-fi or mystery series, on NETFLIX, we have changed tack, and are now watching Rebellion.
I have Irish ancestry through my grandparents, and they often told of their experiences from growing up in Éire, through the Easter Rising to Independence and after.
So, it holds a great deal of interest for me.
The first season was good have to say.
Recommended.

And finally this week
